5 factors why fitness training helps you succeed better in agility!

Do you know the feeling when your legs are burning on the final stretch or when all the power is drained from you in the middle of an agility course? Or when you’re late because you didn’t take off as quickly as you should have?

Regular exercise, that supports an agility handler’s fitness, will impact your performance positively. When you know that you can, your confidence increases and your handling becomes bolder! Read how these 5 factors affect your performance positively:

1.You can run an agility course tirelessly

If you get a lactic acid build-up in your legs in the middle of a training or competition course, your handling weakens. Because of this, your dog may drift off-course. Although at trial practice you need to run non-stop for several minutes, the intensity should remain high throughout as well as the level of quality. This is why it’s important that you can run at trial practice and several courses a day at a trial without tiring.

Improving endurance as well as speed endurance exercises help your body to better resist exhaustion!  Line drills are an excellent way of improving endurance in agility.  Line drills mirror movement in agility, with accelerations and changes of direction. Also, their duration and distance have been designed with agility courses in mind!

Agility requires good reaction skills and speed. If you feel like you stay standing still, you will most likely be late for your next handling. It is important that you don’t stay in situations for too long but take off as fast as possible. When your muscles are able to produce strength quickly, taking off is quicker. Jumping and leaping are good ways of developing your taking off speed!
